Itaipu Binacional

The Itaipu Hydroelectric Dam is one of the largest operational power plants in the world and was named one of the Seven Wonders of Modern Engineering by the American Society of Civil Engineers. Built jointly by Brazil and Paraguay on the Paraná River, the dam stands 196 meters tall and generated up to 103 million MWh in a single year. The complex offers different tour circuits — from the free panoramic drive to the special circuit with access to the control room and turbines. The adjacent Bela Vista Biological Refuge shelters rescued wildlife and offers trails through the Atlantic Forest.
